VI - The outputs achieved during the period 2003-2005 are displayed in Table I. During this time, this research unit was organised in two broad project areas: - "Euro-African dynamics - problems of globalisation and acculturation"
- "States, powers and identities in Sub-Saharan Africa"
| Table 1 - Outputs 2003-05 | | | estimated | achieved | | Books | 15 | 7 | | Int. articles | 65 | 79 | | National articles | 63 | 30 | | Int. papers | 74 | 117 | | National papers | 56 | 35 | | Seminars /Conferences | 18 | 32 | | Master theses | 27 | 26 | | Total | 318 | 326 | This table implies the following percentages of achievement: | Table 2 - % achievements 2003-05 | | | % achieved 2003-05 | | Books | 46,7 | | Int. articles | 121,5 | | National articles | 47,6 | | Int. papers | 158,1 | | National papers | 62,5 | | Seminars/Conferences | 177,8 | | Master theses | 96,3 | The items "books", "national articles" and "national papers" and Master Theses remained below the estimated figures. The percentages of achievement improved during the year 2006 because of new material and human resources inputs. | Table 3 - Outputs 2003-06 | | | 2003-2006 | | | estimated | achieved | | Books | 18 | 9 | | Int. articles | 85 | 105 | | National articles | 69 | 32 | | Int. papers | 84 | 141 | | National papers | 60 | 37 | | Seminar /Conferences | 22 | 52 | | Master theses | 33 | 27 | | TOTAL | 371 | 403 | Table 3 implies the following % of achievements: | | % achieved 2003-06 | | Books | 50,0 | | Int. articles | 123,5 | | National articles | 46,4 | | Int. papers | 167,9 | | National papers | 61,7 | | Seminars/ Conferences | 236,4 | | Master theses | 81,8 | As FCT did not accomplish the triennial funding program in real time, our estimated activity remained determined by a very precarious cash flow. Therefore, we were forced to finish the proposed program during 2006, having then received part of the funding which was due for 2005. The correlation between achievements and funding can be showed as follows: | Year | Euros | % achievements | | 2004 | 4324,9 | 67,368 | | 2005 | 29665,1 | 89,109 | | 2006 | 49658,3 | 145,28 | The correlation between the achievements and the number of researchers involved is also significant. | Year | Researchers | % achievements | | 2004 | 15 | 67,4 | | 2005 | 19 | 89,1 | | 2006 | 22 | 145,3 | |
