9th number of journal Sinergias - Diálogos Educativos para a Transformação Social

The nineth number of journal Sinergias - Diálogos Educativos para a Transformação Social* is now available

For the first time, this issue arises from a number of different suggestions made by the DE Synergies Community, a community of people from Higher Education Institutions or Civil Society Organizations in Portugal, that work and reflect on Education for Social Transformation and are involved in DE Synergies project.

The topic of this number is “Knowledge and Practices on Citizenship for Democracy” and it has a set of articles, interviews and other reviews on knowledges, practices and learning processes critical for the exercise of Democracy and Citizenship.

This issue starts with 3 articles that call us upon the need to rethink our pedagogical processes and their contribution to build a democratic citizenship, specially through 3 different approaches: decolonization (an article by Vanessa Andreotti, Sharon Stein, Dino Siwek et al.), post-truth (an article by Luis Sanabria) and critical thinking (an article by Amanda Franco, Ana Sofia Sousa and Rui Marques Vieira).

These articles are complemented by the opening of a new section dedicated to Practices. In there you can find 3 examples of distinctive projects aimed at building democratic citizenship education, one in ibero-american contexts, other in Portugal and another in the Netherlands.

On the Debate section you will be called to review, in the light of our actual context, the work of Paulo Freire and you will also have the opportunity to read two different Interviews about the topic of this issueone with Miguel de Barros and another with Fergus Bell.

You can also find the Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture do Conselho da Europa as a Key-Document and a review made by the European Wergeland Centre to this document.

The journal is available, free of charge, on the DE Synergies project’s website.
