Reviewing Practices
Every manuscript is blindly evaluated by at least two peer-reviewers on the basis of a standard form provided by the Editorial Board of AS.
Submitted manuscripts are confidential documents and no information concerning them is to be disclosed to anyone other than the respective author or authors, to the reviewers or to other members of the AS Editorial Board. Information disclosed in submitted manuscripts cannot be used in anyone else’s work without the express consent of its authors.
The reviewer’s information is to be blindly given to the authors within a maximum period of six months after the submission of the manuscript. It will be accompanied by the final decision regarding publication issued by the Editorial Board of AS.
Complaints based on ethical grounds regarding published articles oblige the Editorial Board of AS to contact the author or authors and may also lead to further communications to institutions and research bodies.
Articles – Submission and publishing requirements
Authors are all those who have made significant contributions to the papers submitted. Therefore, if the paper has more than one author, all must be identified as co-authors. Those who have contributed in a smaller degree to articles should also be identified.
All authors are committed to present only original works. In the case they have used their own previous work and/or works of others, these ones should be appropriately cited or quoted.
No paper will be published if it does not include sufficient references to allow others to validate the provided information.
Information from private or oral sources must not be used or reported without explicit permission from its sources.
Authors are committed to inform the Editorial Board about the mistakes or inappropriate statements included in their proposals so that these can be corrected before publishing or, eventually, in forthcoming issues.
Authors are committed to explicit the sources of the financial support they have used to produce their scientific outputs in case it may bias the information disclosed.
Interviews and publication of oral sources
The published interviews follow the pattern internationally accepted by the Associations of Oral History.
No interview will ever be published without proper revision and consent of the interviewed. The consent must also include the headlines and subtitles of each published interview.
Book Reviews and other Reports
Book reviewers must abide by a standard form in order to provide accurate and objective reviews of books and papers.
Reports of Scientific Events reflect the author’s own point of view. Complaints based on ethical grounds regarding reports oblige the Editorial Board of AS to contact the author or authors and may also lead to further communications to institutions and research bodies.
Non peer reviewed sections
The non peer reviewed sections of the Africana Studia are the Entrevista (Interview) and Notas de Leitura (Reviewers’ Notes).
Images and Graphic Layout
The Editorial Board is responsible for all the published images and for the graphic layout of each number of the Journal.
